Gigi Rooftop is a wonderful new bar in Thornbury, perched above Umberto Espresso. With a terrific view of Melbourne, an amazing selection of cocktails and great snack-sized menu to match, Gigi has a great Summer vibe and is adored by locals. Before it was fitted out, Umberto Group asked me to design their brand, consisting of a bold wordmark, zesty colour palette and playful pattern.
The wordmark is a modern play of Art Deco Italian typography, with swooping circles and dancing letters. The colours of orange and aqua and both fresh and Summery. To compliment these tones is a deep green used in their menu covers and cushions. As you can see, the interior design’s tiling and furnishings are chosen specifically to match the branding. The tiles used for the bar splashback are orange, and the patterned white ventilation brickwork is reflected in the pattern design I created, which is printed on their grease paper and painted in their stairwell entry.
The complete branding was praised by the client, and truly reflects the energy of their venue; the happiness of sipping a cocktail, chilling to DJ tunes and watching the sun set over Melbourne.
